AceShowbiz - Jonathan Majors is gearing up to star in a new action movie produced by Ben Shapiro and Dallas Sonnier, marking one of his first major projects following his 2023 assault conviction.
The film, directed and written by Kyle Rankin, began production this week in South Carolina. While the title and storyline have not been disclosed, the movie is described as being similar in tone to Red Dawn and Toy Soldiers, suggesting a high-energy, intense action narrative.
Ben Shapiro is producing through Daily Wire, with Dallas Sonnier representing Bonfire Legend. Additional producers include Travis Mills, Lillian Campbell, and Sydney Aucreman. This collaboration follows their previous work with Rankin on the 2020 film Run Hide Fight, which starred Isabel May and Thomas Jane and premiered at the Venice Film Festival.
Shapiro expressed enthusiasm for the project on social media, teasing the announcement with the message, "You're not going to BELIEVE what we're doing."
Jonathan Majors' career faced setbacks after his 2023 assault and harassment conviction related to an incident with his ex-partner Grace Jabbari. Following the conviction, he was dropped from high-profile roles, including Marvel’s villain Kang the Conqueror and the lead role as Dennis Rodman in Lionsgate’s 48 Hours in Vegas, which was canceled before production began.
Since then, Majors has not secured any major studio roles but did appear in the independent film Merciless, directed by Martin Villeneuve. He also starred in the bodybuilding drama Magazine Dreams, which gained significant attention at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. Although Searchlight Pictures initially acquired the film in a competitive bidding process, they dropped it in 2024 following Majors’s conviction. The film was eventually released by Briarcliff Entertainment in 2025.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter coinciding with the release of Magazine Dreams, Majors discussed his hopes for a career comeback. He mentioned reading scripts and attending meetings but acknowledged that his future depends largely on external decisions: "Do I hope to make more movies? Absolutely. That is my intention. But that's not my call. I don't have a studio. And I've given up control."
The news of the new film’s production was first reported by Deadline, highlighting the actor’s ongoing efforts to reestablish himself in the industry through projects outside the traditional studio system.
