AceShowbiz - The Morning Show is set to welcome a new cast member in its upcoming fifth season, as Apple TV announced the addition of Jeff Daniels on Monday. Known for his role in The Newsroom and currently appearing in season 3 of Shrinking, Daniels will portray a character named Lukas, a billionaire founder of an investment firm, marking a departure from the show's usual focus on journalism.
The two-time Emmy winner will join an ensemble cast featuring Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston, Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, and Jon Hamm. The fifth season is expected to continue exploring the intense storylines from the previous season, which included Witherspoon's character Bradley being detained in Belarus and a group of characters exposing a UBN executive implicated in a significant cover-up.
Showrunner Charlotte Stoudt has indicated that the upcoming season will delve deeper into the complex relationship between Bradley and Crudup’s character, Cory. Stoudt previously told The Hollywood Reporter that the dynamic between Bradley and Cory raises questions about whether they are “twin flames” or mirrors of one another, sharing similar psychological traits.
The Morning Show is showrun and executive produced by Stoudt, with Mimi Leder serving as director and executive producer. Additional executive producers include Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer for Media Res, Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter for Hello Sunshine, Aniston and Kristin Hahn for Echo Films, as well as Zander Lehmann and Micah Schraft.
Jeff Daniels is represented by LBI Entertainment, Martino Management, and PMK Entertainment. His casting adds a fresh element to the acclaimed series as it prepares to return for its fifth season on Apple TV.
