Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence is hopeful for more episodes after the successful 2026 revival, which brought back the original cast to huge ratings.

AceShowbiz - The creator of Scrubs has expressed optimism about the potential continuation of the recently revived medical comedy series. The reboot, often referred to as "season 10," premiered its first two episodes on ABC on February 25, 2026, drawing an impressive 11.36 million viewers across streaming and traditional broadcasts within just five days.
This fresh season marks the return of original cast members Zach Braff, Donald Faison, and Sarah Chalke, who reprise their iconic roles nearly 16 years after the original nine-season run ended. In a recent interview with Deadline, Bill Lawrence, the show's creator, spoke about the reboot’s encouraging ratings while promoting his new HBO series Rooster.
"I'm so happy and grateful that anybody still cares about that show," Lawrence said, reflecting on the fan response. When asked about the prospects for future episodes beyond the current nine-episode slate set to air through April 2026, he added, "we're all crossing our fingers that they let us do a whole bunch more, but we're really hopeful."
Although Lawrence did not elaborate on who the "we" encompasses, it likely includes the returning cast and production team, signaling their shared enthusiasm for a renewal. This aligns with previous statements from Lawrence, including hints that veteran actor Ken Jenkins could return as Dr. Bob Kelso if the series is extended.
While there is reason for cautious optimism, the reboot faces challenges common to recent comedy relaunches. Shows like 2019’s Mad About You and 2021’s Punky Brewster lasted only a single season, while others such as 2020’s Saved by the Bell and 2023’s Frasier managed two seasons before concluding. However, some rebooted comedies have defied this trend, including 2017’s Will & Grace and 2023’s Night Court, both running for three seasons, and the 2018 Roseanne spin-off The Conners, which has impressively reached seven seasons on ABC.
When comparing viewership numbers, the current Scrubs season averages about 5.7 million viewers per episode, placing it near the audience level of The Conners’ third season, which averaged 5.7 million viewers as well. By contrast, The Conners season one averaged 9.53 million viewers per episode before declining to 4.11 million by season six.
This level of consistent viewership bodes well for the reboot’s chances of being renewed if the ratings hold steady throughout the season. ABC’s track record suggests that maintaining a strong audience could lead to an extension of the series beyond season 10.
Currently, Scrubs season 10 airs on ABC every Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, continuing its run through spring 2026. Fans and industry watchers alike are eagerly awaiting further announcements regarding the show’s future.
