The arrest occurred in 2024, with Timberlake pleading guilty to the DWI charge in September of that year. Following multiple requests from news organizations to access the bodycam footage, his legal team acted swiftly, arguing that the video contains highly private and sensitive information unrelated to any legitimate public or law enforcement interest.

The petition, submitted on Monday, March 2, asserts that releasing the footage would cause irreparable harm to Timberlake's personal and professional reputation. It also warns that the video could expose him to public ridicule and harassment without serving any valid public purpose.

Specifically, the legal filing claims the footage features intimate details about Timberlake and his family, including medical and other confidential information that is not necessary for informing the public about government operations or official duties. The defense emphasizes that these aspects should be protected from public disclosure.

Normally, under the Freedom of Information Law (FOIL), such footage could be released to the public. However, Suffolk County acting Supreme Court Justice Joseph Farneti has postponed making a ruling to allow all parties involved to negotiate a resolution.
