AceShowbiz - Michaela McManus has been cast in the pilot for NBC’s reboot of The Rockford Files, joining David Boreanaz as his character’s romantic partner. According to TVLine, she will portray Kate, an East Hollywood detective whose relationship with Rockford becomes complicated after he publicly accuses fellow officers of framing him.
The reboot stars David Boreanaz, known for his roles in Bones and Angel, in the lead role originally played by James Garner. The project is being directed by Mike Daniels, who is recognized for his work on Sons of Anarchy. This contemporary update will follow James Rockford as he returns to private investigation in Los Angeles after being newly paroled for a crime he did not commit.
The official synopsis describes the character as a private investigator using charm and wit to solve cases, but quickly finding himself at odds with both local law enforcement and organized crime.
Michaela McManus brings a strong television background to the role. She currently portrays a role opposite Patrick Dempsey in Fox’s Memory of a Killer. Her previous TV credits include appearances on Law & Order: SVU, One Tree Hill, The Vampire Diaries, Awake, Aquarius, You, The Orville, and The Village.
This casting also reunites Michaela McManus and David Boreanaz, who previously worked together on the CBS/Paramount+ drama SEAL Team, where she played Alana Hayes, wife of Boreanaz’s character Jason Hayes.
The reboot of The Rockford Files is currently in the pilot stage, with hopes it will be picked up as a series for the 2026-27 season.
