AceShowbiz - It's official - the iconic '90s fashionista, Cher Horowitz, is returning to our screens. In exciting news for fans of the cult classic film "Clueless," Alicia Silverstone will reprise her role as Cher in a new sequel series currently in development at Peacock.
Silverstone, now 48, confirmed the news via Instagram with a post saying, "Totally buggin'… in the best way 💁♀️✨."
The beloved actress is also set to serve as an executive producer on the series, alongside Amy Heckerling, who wrote and directed the original 1995 film. Other executive producers include producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage ("Gossip Girl," "The O.C."), and Jordan Weiss, known for "Freakier Friday."
While the exact plot details are under wraps, it's known that this series will be a follow-up to the film that continues Cher's story. This project is wholly separate from an earlier attempt in 2020, which was set to focus on Cher's best friend, Dionne Davenport, played by Stacey Dash in the original film.
"Clueless" first hit theaters nearly 30 years ago and was loosely based on Jane Austen's novel "Emma." The film's cast included several notable names such as Paul Rudd, Brittany Murphy, and Donald Faison. Despite its age, the movie has maintained its charm and relevance, becoming a multi-generational favorite.
"Clueless" has had its sequels and spin-offs before, including a sitcom that aired from 1996 to 1999 with Rachel Blanchard playing Cher. While Silverstone did not return for this earlier series, she delighted fans by reprising her iconic role in recent years, most notably in a 2023 Super Bowl commercial for Rakuten.
As the anticipation builds, fans of the original "Clueless" movie are eagerly awaiting more details about this sequel series. One thing is certain - Cher Horowitz is set to make a fabulous return, and we're totally buggin'!
