AceShowbiz - Denise Richards, 54, and Kathy Hilton, 66, have each other's backs as they navigate the challenges of parenting in the public eye. Their friendship, which spans several years, provides both women with the support they need during tough times with their children.
The duo recently caught up over lunch in the March 18 episode of "Denise Richards & Her Wild Things". The two discussed the difficulties of raising children, particularly with the added pressure of having famous last names.
Denise shared that she often turns to Kathy for advice and comfort, especially when dealing with her oldest daughters, Sami, 20, and Lola, 19.
"Sami and Lola are not in a great place, so it's hard," Denise admitted. "They could not be more different." Kathy echoed this sentiment, adding, "They're very opposite. There's always those little peaks and valleys and peaks and valleys."
Denise recalled a particularly challenging time in her life when Sami was a teenager and "out of control." She had to lay down firm boundaries, telling her daughter, "I can't have you come and go whenever you want. I can't have it affect your other sisters. It was just so hard."
Reflecting on Kathy's past helped Denise realize that she wasn't alone. Kathy's daughter, Paris Hilton, had publicly revealed in 2020 that she suffered abuse while attending boarding school. "When I saw the stuff that you were going through, it made me realize, 'Wow, I wonder if Sami sees it differently,' " Denise said.
Kathy shared her own hardships with Paris during her teenage years. "Well I think Paris realizes it because she was totally out of control," Kathy explained. "There'd be days where she'd be gone, skipping school. She was a runner. She ran from I don't know how many schools. It's very scary."
Despite their tumultuous pasts, both Paris, now 44, and Sami have found ways to cope and thrive. Kathy proudly noted that Paris has channeled her traumatic experiences into a force for good. "I couldn't be prouder. Look what she's done with her life. As bad as it was, she's taken her pain and turned it into helping, into a purpose," she said.
Denise, who was married to Charlie Sheen from 2002 to 2005, emphasized the unique challenges of raising children in the spotlight. "It's not easy raising kids with a famous last name," she shared.
"One of the things that's great about talking to Kathy Hilton is, I'm sure my daughters feel extra pressure because their last name is Sheen, and everyone knows the Hilton name. It's different than talking to someone who's never been through this."
Their conversation serves as a reminder that even in the glitz and glam of Hollywood, the challenges of parenting are universally relatable.
"Denise Richards & Her Wild Things" airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo.
