AceShowbiz - Reese Witherspoon shared a touching story about a proud parenting moment that filled her with immense joy. The 48-year-old star has often highlighted the significance of being different, a lesson she evidently passed on to her children.
In a recent Instagram video, Witherspoon recounted a dinner with her friend and her two sons: 21-year-old Deacon Phillippe, whom she shares with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe, and 12-year-old Tennessee, from her marriage to ex-husband Jim Toth.
Over dinner, her friend asked the boys to share a memorable lesson their mother had taught them. One of her sons - though Witherspoon didn't specify which - replied instantly, saying, "She tells me if I have a choice to be normal, or I have a choice to be weird, I should be weird and it's okay to stand out and be different!"
Witherspoon expressed how deeply it touched her to hear this. "It filled my heart with the deepest joy that he learned that from me, and that it's okay," she shared, visibly moved in her Instagram Stories.
For Witherspoon, the idea that her kids recognize and embrace their individuality resonated profoundly. "It just meant so much to me that my kids know it's okay to be different and that it can actually end up being their superpower," she emphasized.
The inspiration to share this moment came after Witherspoon reposted a quote from "The White Lotus" actress Aimee Lou Wood, which was shared by Witherspoon's production company, Hello Sunshine.
Wood's words, "I spent a lot of my life worrying about being weird, and now I'm realizing it could be my superpower," struck a chord with Witherspoon, prompting her to reflect on her journey as a mother and the lessons she imparts to her children.
Despite Witherspoon's flourishing career, her kids are less impressed by her Hollywood achievements. Earlier this year, she revealed that her children actively avoid watching her movies. "You're funny at home - sort of," one of her sons quipped.
Witherspoon, who also has a 25-year-old daughter Ava, continues to inspire her message to young people everywhere: embrace your individuality, for it might just be your greatest asset.
