Attention all Goonies fans: a sequel to the legendary 1985 cult classic is finally announced after facing years of uncertainty. Here is what we know about the project.

AceShowbiz - Nearly four decades after "The Goonies" hit theaters, Warner Bros. has officially announced that a sequel is in development. Potsy Ponciroli has been hired to pen the script for the highly-anticipated follow-up to the beloved childhood adventure film.
While specific plot details and casting information remain under wraps, the exciting project has already seen the return of some of the original film's key behind-the-scenes players.
The original masterminds, Steven Spielberg and Chris Columbus, who wrote the initial screenplay, will be producing the sequel alongside Kristie Macosko Krieger and Holly Bario for Amblin Entertainment.
"The Goonies" (1985) followed the thrilling exploits of a group of kids in Oregon as they discovered a treasure map leading to long-lost pirate riches. As they embarked on the quest, they hoped to save their homes from being demolished by a property development company.
The film became an immediate box office success, grossing $125 million worldwide, and it has since cemented its place in pop culture with enduring phrases like "Goonies never say die!" The iconic cast members included Josh Brolin, Sean Astin, Corey Feldman, Ke Huy Quan, and Martha Plimpton.
Quan, who gained significant acclaim for roles in "Everything Everywhere All at Once" and the "Loki" series on Disney+, previously doubted the movie would get a sequel but he remains open to revisiting his character if the conditions allow. "I would love for it to happen," he said.
His co-star Feldman also shared his enthusiasm, expressing, "All I can say is, get us all together. Everybody is looking good. Sean's looking good. Josh is looking good. We're all looking good still, and we're all alive. Goonies never say die…There's hope."
