AceShowbiz - Wendy Williams is determined to regain control of her life and finances after almost two years under a strict guardianship. The former talk show host signed an affidavit on Wednesday afternoon, February 12, requesting an end to the arrangement and asserting she no longer needs a guardian to manage her affairs.
The 60-year-old media personality has been under the guardianship of Sabrina Morrissey since 2022, following a series of unauthorized large withdrawals from her bank account. her son Kevin Hunter Jr. became a suspect but denied any wrongdoing. Williams claims these withdrawals led her bank, Wells Fargo, to freeze her accounts, ultimately resulting in the guardianship.
Williams, who has been confined to a New York care facility, revealed in the recent documentary "TMZ Presents: Saving Wendy" that she feels "isolated" and "like [she's] in prison." She claimed she is "not allowed to go out" and had only been outside twice in the last 30 days for dental appointments.
In the legally binding document she signed, Williams insists she has "regained capacity" to function independently and does not suffer from frontotemporal dementia, a progressive neurological condition previously diagnosed by doctors at Weill Cornell Medical Center.
To support her case, Williams has hired a new attorney who arranged for her to be re-evaluated by a different doctor. This evaluation is scheduled for the upcoming Tuesday.
Following the medical examination, her legal team plans to file an Emergency Order to Show Cause, compelling the judge to reconsider the guardianship. If the judge denies her request, Williams' attorney will request a jury trial to determine her capability to manage her own life.
In addition to her legal battles, Williams opened up about the negative impact the guardianship has had on her personal relationships, especially with her son. She admitted feeling betrayed and claimed that "other people" might have influenced Kevin's actions, including a suspicious boat rental incident.
Despite the legal and familial challenges, Williams remains hopeful and confident about regaining her autonomy. "Everybody in the case has Wendy's best interests at heart and we all expect that the ultimate outcome will be in line with those best interests," said her attorney, Jason Atlas.
As this legal drama unfolds, Wendy Williams' fans and the public await the next steps in her fight for freedom. With a strong resolve and newly assembled legal team, Williams is determined to reclaim her independence and live life on her own terms once more.
