The 'Emilia Perez' actress has decided to shut down her social media account after issuing an apology for her insensitive posts that cast shadow over her historic Oscar nomination.

AceShowbiz - Karla Sofia Gascon, the first openly transgender actress nominated for Best Actress at upcoming Academy Awards, has deactivated her Twitter/X account. This move came after she apologized for her past controversial social media posts.
The actress, known for her role in "Emilia Perez," was "deeply sorry" after a series of inflammatory tweets came to light. These included comments disparaging Islam, criticizing protests against the murder of George Floyd, and mocking the diversity of the 2021 Oscars.
Gascon acknowledged the harm caused by her past statements. "As someone in a marginalized community, I know this suffering all too well. I am deeply sorry to those I have caused pain. All my life I have fought for a better world. I believe light will always triumph over darkness," she stated.
Gascon was also accused of violating Oscars campaign rules following her comments about fellow nominee Fernanda Torres. Gascon insisted she did not have any issue with Torres, claiming that she only addressed toxic fans and the negativity directed at her on the internet.
This backlash surfaced amid Oscar campaign following Gascon's historic nomination. She is vying for the coveted Best Actress along with Torres, Cynthia Erivo, Demi Moore, and Mikey Madison.
Torres hasn't commented on Gascon's remarks, but she was caught in a similar controversy. The actress nominated for her role in political drama "I'm Still Here" was under fire for her past blackface comedy sketch.
"I am very sorry for this," Torres said earlier this month. "At that time, despite the efforts of Black movements and organizations, the awareness of the racist history and symbolism of blackface hadn't yet entered the mainstream public consciousness in Brazil."
