AceShowbiz - David Leitch, the acclaimed director behind hits like "John Wick" and "Atomic Blonde," is in early discussions to lead the next installment of the "Ocean's" franchise for Warner Bros., according to sources.

Leitch, a stunt man-turned-director whose portfolio also includes "The Fall Guy" and "Deadpool 2", could step into a role previously held by Steven Soderbergh, marking the first time the "Ocean's" series will see a shift in directorial hands.

This move is anticipated to breathe new life into the beloved heist series, which saw its last main entry, "Ocean's 13," hit theaters in 2007. George Clooney's Smokehouse production banner is backing the "Ocean's 14" for Warner Bros. Discovery., making Clooney's return alongside Brad Pitt highly likely.

The dynamic duo last collaborated with Leitch on "Bullet Train," adding the anticipation to this reunion.

The original "Ocean's" trilogy, created by Soderbergh, showcased Clooney and Pitt along with a star-studded ensemble including Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, and Casey Affleck. The first installment, "Ocean's Eleven," earned over $450 million globally. Its successors, "Ocean's Twelve" and "Ocean's Thirteen" continued the trend, grossing $362 million and $311 million worldwide, respectively.

An interesting twist arrived with the all-female spinoff, "Ocean's 8", in 2018, featuring Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, and Rihanna, which grossed $297 million worldwide.

George Clooney has previously hinted at a new "Ocean's" project, confirming, "We have a really good script for another 'Ocean's' now, so we may end up doing another one. It's actually a great script." He compared the movie to "Going In Style," the 1979 heist comedy about elderly friends pulling a daring job.

A prequel is also in the works starring "Barbie" co-stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. Directed by Jay Roach, this film is set in 1960s Europe, reminiscent of the era of the original Rat Pack "Ocean's 11."

As Leitch considers taking the helm, he joins an impressive lineage of directors and stars that have defined the "Ocean's" legacy. Fans can look forward to seeing their favorite characters engage in more high-stakes heists, with the promise of fresh thrills and clever plots.
