Along with Rob McElhenney, his partner in Welsh team Wrexham AFC, and several other celebrities, Ryan Reynolds joined an investment group to acquire a Colombian soccer club.

AceShowbiz - Ryan Reynolds continues to expand his soccer portfolio. The "Deadpool" actor and his Wrexham AFC co-owner, McElhenney, are part of an investment group that bought Colombian soccer team La Equidad on Thursday, January 16.

This dynamic venture is led by real estate investor Al Tylis and soccer executive Sam Porter, both of whom are already stakeholders in the Mexican soccer team, Necaxa.

Alongside Reynolds and McElhenney, other high-profile investors include actress Eva Longoria, supermodel Kate Upton, and Upton's husband, MLB pitcher Justin Verlander.

"We welcome Al Tylis and Sam Porter, who arrive with a clear, long-term vision to continue strengthening our club," La Equidad shared in a statement via X. "This is the first step towards a future full of opportunities."

La Equidad, established in the 1980s and based in Bogota, is a smaller club, with its Metropolitano Stadium seating around 10,000 spectators. Despite finishing 13th in the latest league edition, the club is optimistic about its new leadership. Tylis and Porter have taken on co-president roles, promising to boost the core forces and the female team, ensuring robust development across the board.

Tylis dished on the group's long-term goals, "Our new owners are committed to investing in key areas, including our core forces and our female team. Our aim is to strengthen every aspect of the club, investing for the long term and building on the strong foundation that already exists."

This acquisition marks another milestone in Reynolds and McElhenney's journey through soccer ownership, following their successful investment in Welsh team Wrexham AFC back in 2021. Their involvement indeed brought international attention to the club, amplified by their FX docuseries, "Welcome to Wrexham".

Amid this significant business venture, Reynolds is currently embroiled in a legal controversy. Actor Justin Baldoni, director and co-star of "It Ends With Us"", has filed a $400 million lawsuit against Reynolds, his wife Blake Lively, and her publicist Leslie Sloane, alleging civil extortion, defamation, and other claims. This follows a lawsuit filed by Lively against Baldoni and another one filed by Baldoni against The New York Times.

As Reynolds, McElhenney, and their star-studded team embark on this new chapter with La Equidad, optimism for the club's future climbs high. Fans and investors alike are eagerly watching to see how this latest venture unfolds.
