AceShowbiz - Neil Young, the legendary rock artist at 79, has once again proven that he does things his own way. Just days after announcing that he would no longer be performing at Glastonbury 2025 due to what he described as the BBC's "corporate control," Young reversed his decision, confirming his appearance at the cherished festival.
"Due to an error in the information received, I had decided to not play the Glastonbury festival, which I always have loved," Young wrote on his website. "Happily, the festival is now back on our itinerary and we look forward to playing! Hope to see you there!"
Emily Eavis, the festival's organizer, expressed her excitement on Instagram, stating, "Neil Young is an artist who's very close to our hearts at Glastonbury. He does things his own way and that's why we love him. We can't wait to welcome him back here to headline the Pyramid in June."
This turn of events followed a tense few days where Young had initially pulled out, alleging that the festival had changed due to its partnership with the BBC. He had voiced concerns that the BBC wanted to impose conditions that were unacceptable to him. "It seems Glastonbury is now under corporate control and is not the way I remember it being," he had stated earlier in the week.
The BBC has been Glastonbury's exclusive broadcast partner since 1997, typically offering extensive live coverage. However, Young has a history of limiting broadcast rights. In 2009, despite months of negotiation, only a few songs from his two-hour set were shown on the BBC.
With Glastonbury taking place from June 25 to June 29 in 2025, Young will be sharing the stage with confirmed acts like Rod Stewart and Nile Rodgers. Festival tickets sold out in just 35 minutes, reflecting the enormous anticipation and enthusiasm for the event.
Last year's headliners included a diverse lineup of artists such as Dua Lipa, Coldplay, and LCD Soundsystem, indicating the festival's broad appeal.
Aside from his festival plans, Young revealed that he and his band, Chrome Hearts, are working on a new album, potentially titled "Talking to the Trees".
Young candidly shared the challenges and reflections during his creative process in an interview with The Mentors Radio. He described one new song, "Movin' Ahead," which contemplates current societal and environmental issues, emphasizing his continuous engagement with pressing global matters.
While waiting for his new music, fans new and old alike can look forward to experiencing his musical storytelling live on the Pyramid Stage.
