'The View' co-host Meghan McCain has voiced strong disapproval of Meghan Markle's new Netflix series trailer, calling the timing 'utterly tone deaf' given the current tragedies and turmoil in the U.S.

AceShowbiz - Former "The View" co-host Meghan McCain did not hold back her feelings about the timing of the trailer for Meghan Markle's new Netflix series, "With Love, Meghan." The political commentator criticized the Duchess of Sussex for releasing a teaser of her lifestyle and cooking show just days after significant acts of violence in the United States.
"I was originally a Meghan Markle supporter, I thought she was cool, stylish and refreshing," McCain, 40, posted on X (formerly Twitter). "Like the rest of the world, my opinion changed when she disrespected the royal family."
McCain argued that Markle's effort to present a curated and highly-produced image amidst national crises was out of touch with the reality Americans are facing.
"There have been 2 terror attacks in 2 days, major wars raging, and Americans can't pay for groceries," McCain stated, referencing tragic events in New Orleans and Las Vegas, as well as ongoing international conflicts. "We are a country in rage, uncertainty, and intensity right now. This concept is ill-advised."
Offering a suggestion, McCain said, "I would have instructed the Duchess of Sussex to instead do a show helping bring fresh food to food deserts in low-income neighborhoods." She concluded her critique by emphasizing that Markle's actions were driven by ego and were indicative of why "the world doesn't like you, nothing else."
The new series, which premieres on January 15, will feature Markle cooking and interacting with celebrities and friends, including intimate moments with her husband, Prince Harry. Nonetheless, McCain suggested that Markle's portrayal in the trailer was highly curated and not what Americans are currently looking for.
This isn't the first time McCain has been vocal about Markle and Prince Harry. She previously criticized Markle for her decision to skip King Charles III's coronation in 2023 and has frequently expressed her disapproval of their decisions post their exit from royal duties in 2020.
Despite the backlash, Markle expressed her excitement about her show, sharing on Instagram, "I have been so excited to share this with you. I hope you love the show as much as I loved making it. Wishing you all a fantastic new year!"
Supporters of Markle argue that her new show could bring joy and positivity at a time when it's desperately needed.
While some agree with McCain's sentiments, others see merit in the show's light-hearted approach. One user on X supported Markle, writing, "Taking time to dwell in beauty and companionship - we all need more of that right now."
