AceShowbiz - Chet Hanks is apparently switching up things ahead of 2025. The son of Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson raised people's eyebrows when he debuted a new accent in his new post on his social media account.
In a new video shared earlier this week, the 34-year-old appeared to have traded his Jamaican accent to a New York-inspired style of speaking. "It's mad brick out here, B," he said in the footage while strutting down the snowy streets of New York City. "Word to my muvva, I'm bricked up," he added.
After the video was reposted by Hollywood Unlocked, Internet users didn't wait long to troll Chet. "Sound like an undercover cop," a user commented. A second noted, "He's a good actor like his daddy."
Of Chet's famous dad Tom, a third wrote, "I know Tom wakes up everyday amazed and flabbergasted that this is his child." Another added, "I hate when non-New Yorkers use the accent, it be losing me."
"Nobody even talks like that unless they just came home from jail," a fifth said. Someone additionally accused the "White Boy Summer" rapper of suffering from an "identity crisis."
His confusing accent aside, Chet previously admitted that his parents banned him from starring on reality TV shows before they finally let him appear on VH1's "The Surreal Life". He said at the time, "They definitely have said [no reality TV] in regard to the typical reality shows. When this came up, we discussed it and everybody agreed."
Chet added, "We all agreed that this could be a really great opportunity for me and it was perfect." He said that his parents "were really supportive" and they were all "excited" for the show.
It's unknown why his parents were initially against Chet going on TV show, but the musician is no stranger to controversies. In July, he got candid about his past drug addiction. "I'm a f**king cokehead, straight up. Not anymore, but that is my drug of choice - cocaine, bro, like Tony Mantana," he said. "You're like, 'I know this dude's a f**king cokehead, but I want a little bump.' "
Chet, however, shared that he'd been sober for almost two years at the time. "It's terrible. It eats away. You just, like, wither away 'cause you can't eat, you can't sleep," he said of his past substance issues.
In addition to Chet, Tom and Rita share Truman. The Academy Award-winning actor is also parent to Colin and Elizabeth, whom he shares with late ex-wife Samantha Lewes.
