AceShowbiz - Celine Dion celebrated the memory of her late husband, Rene Angelil, on what would have been their 30th wedding anniversary. On December 17, 2024, the renowned singer shared an emotional post on Instagram featuring a photo from their wedding ceremony in 1994.
In the heartwarming image, Dion is resplendent in a white lace and satin dress, her bridal headpiece and veil enhancing her ethereal beauty. She lovingly gazes into Angelil's eyes, holding his cheeks. Angelil, looking equally radiant, holds her hips and returns her gaze with adoration.
"You still fill our hearts, every day. You are everything for us. We miss you so much. Happy 30th anniversary, mon amour," Dion captioned the post, signing it from herself and their three children: Rene-Charles, 23, and 14-year-old twins, Nelson and Eddy.
Dion and Angelil first met in 1980 when Dion, then a 12-year-old, auditioned for him. Recognizing her talent, Angélil became her manager, and their professional relationship blossomed into a romantic one in 1987. However, Dion initially kept their love private due to concerns about public opinion.
"I was afraid of what people would think," she confessed in a 1994 interview with PEOPLE. Eventually, their love overcame the fear. "When you're in love, you want to scream it to the world," Dion explained. They made their relationship public after a few years of engagement.
On December 17, 1994, Dion and Angélil exchanged vows in a lavish ceremony at Montreal's Notre-Dame Basilica, which was broadcast live on television in Canada. "This is a moment that will be with me for the rest of my life," Dion reflected in an interview with Vogue in 2024.
Four years after their wedding, Angélil was diagnosed with throat cancer. In 2000, they celebrated Angelil being declared cancer-free and renewed their vows in Las Vegas. However, the cancer returned in 2014, leading to his tragic passing on January 14, 2016, just two days shy of his 74th birthday.
Despite Angelil's absence, Dion continues to cherish his memory. She revealed in June that she travels for her stiff-person syndrome treatments and always brings pictures of him. "And we have pictures, of course, all over the place in the house," she said. "I'm still married to Rene. He's still my husband. He will always be."
