AceShowbiz - Eight years after his brother Jordan Rodgers took part in JoJo Fletcher's season of "The Bachelorette", Aaron Rodgers is finally speaking out about how Jordan publicly portrayed their familial fallout on the show.
The NFL quarterback isn't pleased. Aaron, now 41, elaborated on his relationship with Jordan, 36, on episode two of his Netflix docuseries "Aaron Rodgers: Enigma", which started streaming on December 17.
"It wasn't like I was super duper close with everybody in the family. I was close with my little brother," Aaron began, hinting at past issues. "But in actuality, it goes back to stuff from high school that kind of made me feel distant. Stuff in college, stuff post-college."
Both brothers had promising starts in football, with Aaron being drafted in the first round by the Green Bay Packers in 2005 while Jordan embarking on a career as quarterback at Vanderbilt before being released by three NFL teams.
Aaron opted to stay silent on their family differences until 2016 when Jordan participated in ABC's dating series, garnering media attention. Jordan's turn on "The Bachelorette" marked a public acknowledgment of their estrangement, magnified by Aaron's notable absence during the hometown episode.
"And what do they do? They go on a bull**** show and leave two empty chairs," noted Aaron, referring to the conspicuous absence of himself and then-girlfriend Olivia Munn from the family dinner shown on TV.
That only deepened the resentment between him and his family. "They all agreed this was a good thing to do, to leave two empty chairs at a stupid dating show that my brother just went on to get famous - his words, not mine. That he ended up winning," Aaron hit back at his family. "But a dinner that was during the season, I was never asked to go to. Not that I would've gone."
Jordan's remarks on the show echoed the discontent. "At every step of my life, I was kind of disappointed... No matter what I did, it was never good enough because I was being compared to someone who did it the best," he stated at the time, further explaining they hadn't spoken in two years due to Aaron's lifestyle choices.
When asked about the situation in 2016, Aaron initially chose to remain private, "I haven't seen the show, to be honest with you... I've always found that it's a little inappropriate to talk publicly about some family matters." Nevertheless, he wished Jordan well in a comment that went viral among "Bachelor Nation".
The tension between the brothers remains but hasn't snuffed out hope for reconciliation. Following Jordan's marriage to JoJo in 2022, Aaron shared, "People ask me, 'Is there hope for reconciliation?' I say, 'Yeah of course. Of course... I don't want them to fail, to struggle, to have any strife or issues. I don't wish any ill will on them at all.' "
He added philosophically, "It's more like this - we're just different steps on a timeline of our own journeys."
All three episodes of "Aaron Rodgers: Enigma" are now streaming on Netflix, giving fans deeper insight into the enigmatic quarterback and his complex relationship with his family.
