AceShowbiz - Lil Wayne has no bad blood with Kendrick Lamar. In a new podcast appearance, the New Orleans star discussed his feelings after the NFL appointed Kendrick, instead of him, to headline the upcoming LIX Super Bowl Halftime show in his hometown.
In the Monday, December 16 episode of "The Skip Bayless Show", Lil Wayne addressed the Super Bowl snub. "I will give you two answers - a general answer and a personal answer. Generally, I just believe that they - for whatever reason - I believe that it's over my head, meaning I don't know why," Lil Wayne shared.
As for his personal take on the matter, Tunechi explained, "Personally, the person I am - I mean, I straight look at it, like, you ain't there, you gotta get there." When the host mentioned that politics might play part in the decision, the rapper responded, "That's another part of it. I think there's things that I can't control involved in it, so it is what it is."
Later, Skip brought out Kendrick's "wacced out murals", on which K.Dot name-dropped Lil Wayne, into the topic. The track featured Kendrick rapping, "Used to bump Tha Carter III, I held my Rollie chain proud/ Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down/ Won the Super Bowl and Nas the only one congratulate me/ All these n***as agitated, I'm just glad they showin' they faces."
Admitting that it was his first time hearing the verse, Tunechi said of the song, "I think he's a fan - like I'm a fan of his music. I think he just means he saw how much it meant to me. I think that's all he means. … He didn't let me down."
The legendary rapper added that he had nothing but best wishes for the "Not Like Us" hitmaker. "I've spoken to him and I wished him all the best and told him he better kill it," he noted.
Kendrick is set to play halftime at the LIX Super Bowl on February 9, 2025, at Caesars Superdome.
