James Gunn provides an update on the 'The Batman' sequel and responds to speculation that Clayface and The Scarecrow will appear in Matt Reeves' upcoming movie.

AceShowbiz - James Gunn has clarified rumors regarding the appearance of Clayface and The Scarecrow in "The Batman Part II". In response to a fan's query, Gunn confirmed that both Batman villains would not be featured in the sequel, as there is no first draft of a script yet.
"Firstly, no," Gunn wrote on Threads, replying to a fan on the Meta-owned microblogging platform. "Secondly, couldn't be the case as there hasn't yet been a first draft of a script."
"The Batman Part II", directed by Matt Reeves, is scheduled for release in October 2026. While it is not part of Gunn's DC Universe, Reeves has stated that the upcoming "The Penguin" film will be the entry point to the sequel.
Meanwhile, DC Studios is moving forward with a standalone "Clayface" movie. The horror-thriller-tragedy is being written by Mike Flanagan and is slated for a September 11, 2026 release. The project is being produced by James Gunn, Peter Safran, Matt Reeves and Lynn Harris.
The studio is also developing "Dynamic Duo", an animated origin story of Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, for a June 30, 2028 release. The film will be directed by Arthur Mintz and produced by Reeves, Harris and others.
In other DC news, the trailer for James Gunn's "Superman" is expected to drop early next week, with the film set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Other upcoming DC projects include "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" on June 26, 2026, and two untitled films scheduled for May 29, 2026 and March 5, 2027.
