'Sesame Street' iconic run on HBO and Max is coming to an end, and the beloved educational show is shopping for a new platform to call home after a decade-long partnership.

AceShowbiz - "Sesame Street" is looking for a new home after Warner Bros. Discovery has decided not to renew its agreement with HBO and Max for new episodes of the iconic children's show. However, the streamer will continue to license existing episodes from the vast "Sesame Street" library until 2027.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news, reporting that the decision is part of Max's shift towards more adult and family-oriented programming. The spokesperson for Max stated, "As we've launched Max, we had to prioritize our focus on stories for adults and families."

"Sesame Street" has been on Max for almost a decade, following its move from HBO in 2019. However, the show's departure is not without its issues. Cost-cutting measures at Warner Bros. Discovery led to the removal of hundreds of episodes from the "Sesame Street" library in 2022.

Despite these challenges, the Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit organization behind "Sesame Street", remains optimistic. They will continue to license episodes to Max until 2027 and are actively seeking new distribution partnerships to ensure the show reaches children worldwide.

"Sesame Street", with over 4,700 episodes and decades on air, has won numerous awards and holds a special place in American television history. It is watched by nearly half of all U.S. preschoolers and features a cast of beloved Muppets, including Elmo, Big Bird and Cookie Monster.

The show has undergone several changes in recent years, including the transition to longer, narrative-focused segments and the introduction of new characters, such as the first autistic character and the first homeless muppet. As it enters its next era, "Sesame Street" plans to move away from its traditional format towards more serialized storytelling and introduce an accompanying animated series called "Tales From 123".
