AceShowbiz - While attending the New York City premiere of her new series "Dexter: Original Sin" on Wednesday, December 11, Sarah Michelle Gellar, 47, addressed a viral red carpet moment that had fans talking. Asked by Extra if she was aware of Jennifer Love Hewitt's return for the new "I Know What You Did Last Summer" reboot movie, Gellar appeared initially at a loss for words before replying, "I have nothing to do with that," and stepping away with a smile.
This brief interaction spurred some fans to speculate about past on-set feuds, recalling old rumors surrounding the original 1997 film. However, Gellar took to her Instagram Stories on Friday, December 13, to set the record straight, explaining her reaction was simply due to non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) about the project.
"Aspiring actors please note: this deer in the headlights reaction is perfect for when you are excited to see so many old friends in one project but have already stupidly forgotten what NDA means once this month," she clarified.
Recently, Gellar had shared a behind-the-scenes photo on Instagram from the "I Know What You Did Last Summer" set, visited by her husband, Freddie Prinze Jr., who is reprising his role. She humorously admitted on "Live with Kelly and Mark", "I found out that they hadn't posted any pictures from the set yet, hadn't announced they started filming. Yeah... that was an 'Oops! My bad!' I got in a little bit of trouble."
Hewitt finally confirmed her return to the franchise on Deember 13 via Instagram, posting a new photo captioned, "It's never too late to go back. Julie James is returning. I know what you will be doing next summer!" Gellar shared the post on her own Instagram Stories, showing her support.
Addressing the decades-old rumors of a feud, Hewitt also spoke on the "I've Never Said This Before" with Tommy DiDario podcast, dispelling myths that she had demanded Gellar's character be killed off.
"I was 18. They were not taking script notes from me. All of us were in that experience together, you know, figuring it all out and everything. And I root for her and Freddie," Hewitt said. "I think it's the cutest thing in the world that they've been married for 100 years and have kids. It's, like, adorable. So it's just been really funny to see all of this stuff."
The much-anticipated "I Know What You Did Last Summer" reboot is set to hit theaters in summer 2025, promising to revive the excitement and chills of the classic slasher film for a new generation.
