AceShowbiz - Mariah Carey had to temporarily say "Bye Bye" to her fans in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Grammy winner came down with symptoms of the flu and canceled her concert on Wednesday, only hours before she was set to take the stage.
"Pittsburgh, I am sorry to say, I've come down with the flu," Carey wrote in a statement shared via X. "It breaks my heart that I unfortunately have to cancel tonight's show. I love you all so much." The post was shared around 4 P.M. ET, nearly three and a half hours before the concert was scheduled to begin at 7:30 P.M. ET.
The 55-year-old songstress is currently on her Christmas Time Tour, a 20-city trek across the United States, celebrating the 30th anniversary of her 1994 album, "Merry Christmas." This iconic album includes her hit song "All I Want for Christmas Is You," which recently returned to the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Carey commemorated this milestone during her performance in Raleigh, NC, where her twins, Moroccan and Monroe, presented her with flowers on stage.
Carey's sudden illness led to a flood of support from fans on social media. Comments ranged from well wishes ("Your health comes first"), sympathy ("Feel better queen"), and even advice ("Drink some chamomile tea"). While the Pittsburgh concert will not be rescheduled, Ticketmaster assured fans they'd receive a full refund.
The PPG Paints Arena also confirmed the cancellation on its website, stating, "Tonight's show with Mariah Carey has been cancelled. Fans will receive an email with refund options. If you do not receive an email, please contact your point of purchase." Carey's next performance is scheduled for Friday at Newark, New Jersey's Prudential Center, followed by stops at Belmont Park's UBS Arena and ending at Brooklyn's Barclays Center next week.
Despite this setback, Carey continues to bask in the success of her Christmas album. "Last night on stage in Raleigh, North Carolina, I found out that All I Want For Christmas Is You returned to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100," she posted on Instagram, expressing her gratitude and excitement.
Mariah Carey's "Christmas Time Tour" is billed as her "grandest spectacle to date." Fans can look forward to her upcoming performances while keeping their fingers crossed for her swift recovery. All eyes will be on Newark this Friday as Carey aims to continue spreading holiday cheer through her music.
