Universal Pictures is preparing to revisit the 'circle of trust' with a new 'Meet the Parents' movie featuring some of the original stars that made the franchise a box office hit.

AceShowbiz - Universal Pictures is bringing back the family chaos with a fourth installment in the beloved "Meet the Parents" franchise. Original stars Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller, Teri Polo, and Blythe Danner are in early talks to reprise their iconic roles.
The screenplay will be penned by John Hamburg, who has a history with the series, having co-written all three previous movies.
The comedic saga, which began in 2000 under the direction of Jay Roach, focuses on the awkward yet endearing interactions between Greg Focker (Stiller), a male nurse, and his overbearing, ex-CIA father-in-law Jack Byrnes (De Niro).
The original "Meet the Parents" was a global success, grossing more than $330 million and establishing itself as the seventh highest-grossing film of the year.
Plot details for the new movie remain tightly guarded, but fans can expect the return of the hilarity that made the franchise a hit. The previous sequels, "Meet the Fockers" (2004) and "Little Fockers" (2010), introduced new characters and added even more comedic layers to the family dynamics, culminating in a total franchise gross of over $1.13 billion globally.
While a director for the new project hasn't been announced yet, the production team is a powerhouse. Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal will produce through Tribeca Productions, Jay Roach via Delirious Media, and Ben Stiller along with John Lesher through Red Hour Films. Universal's executive VP of production development, Matt Reilly, and director of production development, Jacqueline Garrell, will oversee the project.
The previous films also featured notable performances from Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand as Greg's parents and Owen Wilson as Pam's ex-boyfriend. It's still unclear if they will return for this new installment. However, fans can look forward to the familiar comedic tension and evolving relationships that have always been at the heart of the series.
