AceShowbiz - Armani Latimer, a star among the "Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders", made a bold statement at the Monday, December 9 game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Cincinnati Bengals by performing without a wig after revealing her alopecia diagnosis. The emotional event, held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, was part of the team's "My Cause My Boots" platform in support of Alopecia Awareness.
In a joint Instagram reel posted by Latimer and the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, Latimer appeared deeply moved as she prepared to take the field. The caption read, "Confidence takes center stage for Alopecia Awareness 💙#MyCauseMyBoots | #DCCheerleaders."
The video clip showed an emotional Latimer linking arms with her cheerleading team in the stadium dressing room, with a person behind the camera encouraging her by saying, "You got this, 'Mani!"
Latimer was then seen walking backstage with her team, beaming through tears as she hugged her members and head choreographer Judy Trammell before facing the crowd outside. The performance, which included the iconic "Thunderstruck" routine and kick line, ended with Latimer in high spirits, wowing the audience with her energetic dance.
A voiceover in the clip expressed the significance of Latimer's act, "We're so proud that you're doing this, and you're representing a lot of little girls out there. And they're going to be looking at you in awe, at your strength, knowing that they are going to feel so beautiful after this because of what you're doing today. So we're just so proud of you." According to Dallas Cowboys writer Clarence Hill Jr., this was the first time Latimer performed at a game without a wig.
Latimer was diagnosed with alopecia areata at the age of 12, an autoimmune disease that causes patchy hair loss by attacking the body's hair follicles. She told Women's Health, "I went through high school without telling anyone I even had alopecia. But once I got to college, stress caused more hair loss; loss that took much longer to grow back."
She shared that her condition was initially challenging to manage as a cheerleader, leading her to wear sew-ins and later wigs when her hair fully fell out after joining the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.
She described the tumultuous period, saying, "It was such a tumultuous time that I was only able to give about 50 percent of my effort." Despite these challenges, she found solace and strength in her teammates and family, adding, "Overall, my team and my family helped me maintain a positive mindset. I wouldn't be anywhere without my support system."
Armani Latimer's courageous act has shined a light on alopecia awareness, inspiring many and highlighting the importance of support systems in facing life's challenges.
