AceShowbiz - Jesse Eisenberg has opened up about the profound emotional toll that playing the fictionalized writer David Lipsky in the 2015 drama "The End of the Tour" took on him.
In a recent video interview with GQ, Eisenberg revealed that the role's envious nature left him deeply uncomfortable and emotionally drained. "I was playing a deeply envious person, who was interviewing a writer that he was deeply envious of," he said. "It was very uncomfortable and emotional for me to be in that role."
Eisenberg struggled to understand the specific trigger that led to his intense reaction to the material. "I don't know if I was going through something in my career at that time or something that mirrored the events in the movie," he confessed. "It just hit me in a personal way."
The tight production schedule and limited budget of the film further exacerbated Eisenberg's emotional experience. "I was in this world for long hours, and it felt unhealthy for me," he said. "I was glad when it ended, even though it was a creatively inspiring experience."
Despite the challenges, Eisenberg values his time on "The End of the Tour". "The relationship I had with James Ponsoldt, the director, was one of the highlights of my life, as well as my connection with Jason Segel," he stated. "We felt like we were on the same team."
Reflecting on the film's significance, Eisenberg concludes, "It's one of the films I love the most."
