AceShowbiz - Sir Elton John, 77, made a startling revelation at the premiere of his musical, "The Devil Wears Prada", in London. He informed the audience that he could not see the performance due to ongoing vision issues. "As some of you may know, I have had issues, and now I have lost my sight," he said. "I haven't been able to see the performance, but I have enjoyed it."
John attributed his vision loss to an infection he contracted during a vacation in France in July. He suffered blindness in his right eye and limited vision in his left. While the singer expressed hope for recovery, he acknowledged that it would be a slow process. It's an extremely slow process, and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye," he stated.
John highlighted the role of his husband, David Furnish, in supporting him through this challenging time. "To my husband, who's been my rock because I haven't been able to come to many of the previews ... it's hard for me to see it, but I love to hear it, and it sounded good tonight."
The musician's vision loss has also affected his upcoming album with longtime collaborator Bernie Taupin. "I'm kind of stuck at the moment ... going into the studio and recording, I don't know," he explained.
Despite the setbacks, John remains optimistic. He expressed gratitude for the excellent care he has received from his medical team and family. He also thanked the audience for their support and the show's creative team for their hard work. "I am so grateful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me over the last several weeks."
The gala performance of "The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical" raised funds for the Elton John AIDS Foundation. Attendees included fashion icons Anna Wintour and Donatella Versace, who shared their thoughts on the show and the fashion industry.
