AceShowbiz - Disney is gearing up for a splash with the release of the teaser trailer for its live-action adaptation of "Lilo & Stitch". Director Dean Fleischer Camp's reimagined version of the 2002 animated feature is set to hit theaters on May 23, 2025.
The cast includes Maia Kealoha as Lilo, Sydney Elizebeth Agudong as Nani, and Kaipot Dudoit as David Kawena. Zach Galifianakis, Billy Magnussen, Courtney B. Vance and Hannah Waddingham join the cast, while original voice stars Chris Sanders, Tia Carrere, Amy Hill and Jason Scott Lee return.
The teaser introduces a more realistic CGI design for Stitch, the titular blue alien, who causes a bit of havoc on a Hawaiian beach. While Lilo is not featured in the trailer, the film is expected to follow the original animated storyline of a Hawaiian girl who befriends an extraterrestrial being.
Camp directed the new movie from a script by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright, based on the 2002 film co-directed by Sanders and Dean DeBlois. Jonathan Eirich and Dan Lin serve as producers.
In contrast to Disney's other live-action remakes, the challenge with "Lilo & Stitch" lies in portraying Stitch, an animalistic alien, in a realistic manner. The filmmakers had to strike a balance between retaining his iconic characterization and implementing special effects to make him more "believable."
The teaser showcases Stitch's chaotic personality through his destructive antics, echoing the original promotional campaign that featured the blue alien disrupting classic Disney scenes.
Disney continues its focus on live-action remakes of beloved animated films, such as the upcoming prequel "Mufasa: The Lion King" and the Rachel Zegler-led "Snow White".
