AceShowbiz - R&B singer Ne-Yo is turning heads and stirring conversations after openly expressing his preference for polygamy following his split with ex-wife Crystal Renay. During a revealing interview on the "Lemon Drop" show, Ne-Yo admitted that he has never felt more liberated, attributing this newfound freedom to living in his truth - a truth that values multiple romantic relationships over monogamous commitment.
"I am not s**tting on anyone who has figured out how to make that thing work for them. Monogamy's for you? It's not for me. I know this now, and it's like a weight lifted off my shoulders," Ne-Yo told the show's audience. He continued, "I spent so much time lying and trying to be somebody that I wasn't for the sake of somebody else. Complete and utter time wasted."
He's sick and tired of "lying and trying to be somebody that I wasn't for the sake of somebody else." He went on, "I don't have to lie anymore, and I'll be damned if I ever go back to [being] that person that needed to lie for the appeasement of somebody else."
The singer, who finalized his divorce from Crystal Renay in February 2023, shared that his seven-year marriage was overshadowed by his dishonesty about his true desires. Renay had publicly accused him of infidelity and of fathering a child outside their marriage, which she described in a viral social media post as the actions of a "narcissist."
Since parting ways with Renay, with whom he shares three children, Ne-Yo has fully embraced a bachelor lifestyle. He's been seen dating multiple women simultaneously and has even voiced support for the legalization of polygamy.
In an interview with TMZ, the 45-year-old musician affirmed his stance, saying, "There's no specific cap. It just depends on who I vibe with and who vibes with me. As many as you can afford."
Ne-Yo's candid remarks highlight a broader conversation about the pressures society places on individuals to fit into conventional relationship models. "Society tells you that you're supposed to be with one person. You get married, and y'all supposed to be together forever," he noted. However, Ne-Yo emphasizes that such norms are not one-size-fits-all, declaring his rejection of monogamy as a personal truth and a source of immense relief.
While his stance may be polarizing, Ne-Yo's declaration invites young people to explore and understand their own truths in relationships. "I'm living it now, and you can tell: my skin is glowing. I'm in a great space - mentally, emotionally, and everything else," the singer stated, underscoring the benefits of living authentically.
As public dialogue continues to evolve, figures like Ne-Yo play a significant role in challenging conventional norms and advocating for a broader acceptance of diverse relationship styles. Whether one agrees with his choices or not, his journey serves as a striking example of the importance of personal honesty and integrity in the pursuit of happiness.
