'WandaVision' actress Elizabeth Olsen discusses her approach to film, the relationship between Marvel and indie projects, and the challenges of getting smaller films funded.

AceShowbiz - Elizabeth Olsen, known for her role as Wanda Maximoff (or the Scarlet Witch) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is also a notable presence in indie films. But her commitment to Marvel isn't just to subsidize her passion projects.

"I'd never really had the mentality of 'one for them, one for me,'" she explained at Vulture Festival. Instead, Marvel has provided her with a sense of financial security that has allowed her to pursue independent filmmaking at her own choosing. "Marvel has been such a consistent thing I've been able to return to and has created - what's the word? - some feeling of insurance in my life," Olsen said. "It's given me freedom to choose other jobs."

Olsen emphasizes that her return to Marvel projects, such as the Disney+ series "Wandavision," is always driven by compelling characters and storylines. "Every time, it's character-driven," she said. "It's always like, 'We have this idea, and that's why we want you to come back.' "

Olsen acknowledges the importance of both types of movies in the industry. While she admits to being hesitant about films destined for streaming-only releases, she understands the financial support that Marvel projects provide to theaters, enabling them to showcase smaller movies.

"I do think that's the relationship," Olsen said.

However, despite her success in major Hollywood blockbusters, Olsen still faces challenges in getting indie films off the ground. She highlighted the funding difficulties Todd Solondz is currently facing for upcoming film, "Love Child," in which she stars.

"I'm not a producer on it, but I've never hustled more for a movie that's having a hard time being made," Olsen said.

She appealed to journalists to help spread awareness and support Solondz's project, underscoring the need for financial backing to bring diverse and ambitious films to fruition.
