The new HBO series expands the Dune franchise by exploring the origins of the Bene Gesserit sect and the Harkonnen/Atreides feud, while also standing apart from "Game of Thrones" with its focus on female empowerment.

AceShowbiz - "Dune: Prophecy", premiering on HBO on November 17th, is a prequel to Frank Herbert's renowned Dune franchise. Set 10,000 years before the events of "Dune", the series has drawn comparisons to "Game of Thrones" due to its themes of political intrigue and power struggles.
However, stars Olivia Williams and Emily Watson emphasize the fundamental differences between the two shows. "Dune: Prophecy" centers around female characters, offering a unique perspective not found in "Game of Thrones". Emily Watson, who plays Valya Harkonnen, notes that the series "covers the whole spectrum" of power dynamics, but ultimately focuses on the strength of the sisterhood.
Williams, who portrays Tula Harkonnen, echoes this sentiment, highlighting the difference between "Dune: Prophecy" and its HBO predecessor. She states, "The women in this series are not the adjuncts to the men, and that is what sets us apart."
The series follows Valya and Tula Harkonnen as they confront threats to humanity and establish the Bene Gesserit. Despite the popularity of the "Dune" films, showrunner Alison Schapker believes that viewers do not need prior knowledge of the franchise to enjoy the series.
Fans of the "Dune" universe are also eager for news of a third film. While "Dune 3" has not been officially confirmed by Warner Bros., director Denis Villeneuve has hinted that war may be a significant theme in a potential sequel.
