AceShowbiz - Tony Hinchcliffe has broken his silence on Donald Trump winning the 2024 presidential election against Kamala Harris. The comedian, who made a controversial joke about Puerto Rico, reacted to the politician's win.
On Sunday, November 10, Tony made use of his X, formerly known as Twitter, account to share his reaction to Donald Trump's victory. He reposted a tweet that read, "How Trump flipped the U.S. county with the highest percentage of Puerto Rican voters." However, he did not leave any comments on the matter.
Meanwhile, other X users appeared to have credited Tony for pushing Puerto Ricans to vote for Donald Trump. One in particular replied, "F**k yeah Tony you pushed the Puerto Ricans to vote Trump." Another chimed in, "Maybe Puerto Ricans actually understand what comedy is and what a comedian does and also first hand understood where the job originates from."
The comments came a few weeks after Tony made an appearance at Donald Trump's rally, which took place at Madison Square Garden on October 27. During the event, Tony stepped on the stage to give a speech. At one point, he said, "It is absolutely wild times. It really really is."
Tony continued, "And you know, there's a lot going on. Like, I don't if you guys know this but there's literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now. I think it's called Puerto Rico." His statement prompted the audience to protest, leading him to say, "Okay, alright. Okay, we're getting there."
As a result, Tony received backlash from many people. Moreover, Kamala's Vice President candidate Tim Walz reacted to Tony's remarks during an interview. Tim came to Puerto Ricans' defense, saying, "People in Puerto Rico are citizens. They pay taxes and serve in the military at almost a higher rate than anybody else."
Upon learning of Tim's response, Tony slammed the politician, claiming that he has "no sense of humor." He stated, "Wild that a vice presidential candidate would take time out of his 'busy schedule' to analyze a joke taken out of context to make it seem racist." He then defended himself, "I love Puerto Rico and vacation there. I made fun of everyone...watch the whole set. I'm a comedian Tim...might be time to change your tampon."
