AceShowbiz - Selena Gomez has taken to social media to express her dismay at the 2024 presidential election results. Not being able to hide her disappointment, the singer/actress says that her "heart is heavy today" in the wake of Kamala Harris' defeat to Donald Trump.
On Wednesday night, November 6, the 32-year-old took to her Instagram Story to share a cryptic quote about not being a "free" woman. "I am not free while any woman is unfree, even when her shackles are very different from my own," read the quote written over a pale pink background.
The quote was originally by Audre Lorde, a black writer, professor, philosopher, intersectional feminist, poet and civil rights activist who dedicated her life and talents to confronting different forms of injustice. Seemingly borrowing the quote to express her concerns about the fate of women in the U.S. under Trump's upcoming presidency, she added in her caption, "My heart is heavy today."
Selena has also seemingly cut ties with her friend over their different political stance. The former Disney Channel darling is reported to have unfollowed her BFF Caroline Franklin, who is a Trump support, on Instagram following the election results.
It's unclear if Selena made the move because of Caroline's support for Trump, but the social media personality has been posting her pictures with the president elect on her Stories in the wake of his election win.
Further rubbing salt to Selena's wound, Caroline has celebrated Trump's win by praising her family members, who were apparently involved in the Trump campaign. "I'm so proud of my only and baby brother @drakefranklin and all the hard work from @a1policy & @jaymeleaghfranklin!!! You did it!!!! From falling in love at the White House to campaigning for the last 4 years as newlyweds with a newborn. Can't wait to see what's next for your family!!!" she wrote alongside a picture of her brother, his wife and daughter with Trump and J.D. Vance.
