AceShowbiz - Keke Palmer recently opened up about the significant stressors that strained her relationship with the 30-year-old fitness instructor Darius Jackson. In an exclusive interview with People magazine, Palmer divulged the complexities of their bond, a topic she delves into deeply in her upcoming memoir, "Master of Me: The Secret to Controlling Your Narrative."
"Having a baby was a big stressor," Palmer confessed, highlighting one of the two main factors that led to their relationship's demise. Additionally, Palmer's fame added a burdensome weight to their romantic entanglement. She explained, "Not just with my romantic relationships, but with family and friends, it's always become a burden. Too many voices get in. It can make everybody else not trust you. It's hard to explain."
The couple's relationship, which began in 2021, initially felt like a serendipitous union. "It was like, not only is this the person, but this is the time. It felt very spiritual for Darius and I," Palmer noted. They bonded over shared loneliness and consciously decided to bring their son, Leo, into the world. "Leo was very planned," the actress emphasized.
However, their romance took a dark turn when Jackson publicly shamed Palmer over her choice of a sheer, body-baring Givenchy dress at an Usher concert. "It's the outfit tho … you a mom," Jackson tweeted, sparking social media backlash.
The 31-year-old "Nope" star revealed that their relationship was already "unhappy and unhealthy" before the incident, and things only escalated from there.
The couple's strained dynamic became even more tumultuous, leading to allegations of domestic violence and a bitter custody battle for their son, Leodis. Palmer sought a restraining order, alleging multiple instances of abuse, including an incident where Jackson allegedly broke into her home and attempted to strangle her. Jackson countered by accusing Palmer of being verbally and physically abusive, especially after consuming alcohol.
"It got so out of control," Palmer reflected. "The only way I knew how to bring order was through the court." Following the tumult, the former couple reached an amicable joint custody agreement after court-ordered mediation.
Despite the bitter moments, Palmer expressed a nuanced view of Jackson. "I wish I could say he was terrible the entire time or that I was … but it wasn't that black-and-white and that was the problem. I didn't want my son to think his father is a monster, because I don't," she writes in her memoir.
Now, having found peace and forgiveness, Palmer feels a sense of ease. In her words, "I feel very at ease now knowing things are under control." Palmer's highly anticipated book, "Master of Me: The Secret to Controlling Your Narrative," is set to be released on November 19.
