AceShowbiz - Emily Simpson, a star of "The Real Housewives of Orange County" opened up about her painful journey through multiple miscarriages and IVF treatments during an emotional appearance on Scheana Shay's "Scheananigans" podcast. Emily, who married her husband Shane 15 years ago, began trying to conceive shortly after their wedding, knowing that at 32, her biological clock was ticking.
"I had multiple miscarriages - I don't even know how many at this point, I think it was like five or six or something - just one after another after another. It got to the point where I did in vitro [fertilization]," Emily recounted.
Her most harrowing experience came while she was pregnant with twins, following an IVF cycle. "I'll never forget I was at Costco and I was pregnant with twins, a boy and a girl. I was four months along and I remember saying to Shane, 'I don't feel right. Something feels wrong.' Right when I said that, my water broke just all over the aisle," she shared.
Emily was rushed to the local emergency room in Utah, where she "had to go into labor" knowing that the babies wouldn't survive. The traumatic incident required her to undergo an emergency D&C and a blood transfusion.
"It was the most horrible thing I've ever been through in my entire life. I remember crying the entire time to just holding onto [Shane] saying, 'I'm never doing this again. I can't go through this,' " she disclosed.
After this devastating loss, Emily recounted the experience to her sister, Sara Moffitt, who stepped in with an extraordinary offer. "She said, 'Please don't do it again. I don't know what's wrong with you, but your body just can't do it. I'll do it for you,' " Emily recalled.
Moffitt, who already had her own child, became the surrogate for all three of the Simpson children: Annabelle, now 11, and twins Luke and Keller, both 9.
"I still do this day don't know why I could never actually carry," Emily admitted. "It was traumatizing. It was the worst thing I've ever been through, so to look at my three children now, I always just think about my sister and how much she sacrificed."
Emily and Shane's journey highlights the emotional and physical toll of fertility struggles, and the incredible support that family can offer. Despite the trauma, the Simpsons found their path to parenthood through the immense generosity and love of Emily's sister, Sara.
