Approximately one week before Kent's passing, rumors spread that he had passed away, but they were quickly debunked. The Source first reported the false reports earlier this month, but then retracted the story.
"DJ Clark Kent is STILL with us," Questlove wrote on Instagram to shut down the death rumors. "Quit with the misinformation. It's stressful as it is."
"The article about DJ Clark Kent's passing is false," Angie Martinez wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. "Clark is home with his family. Please refrain from sharing any other false information. It is hurtful, deeply irresponsible, and untrue."
Pete Rock also joined in to condemn the false reports, saying, "Stop traumatizing his family posting that he passed!!" The Source later retracted the story and apologized, explaining that it was contacted by a family member who provided the false information.
Throughout his career, Kent has produced classic songs for Jay-Z, The Notorious B.I.G., Rakim, Lil' Kim and more. Kent's life and career will be further highlighted in a documentary titled "God's Favorite DJ: The Story of DJ Clark Kent".
It is directed by media personality Martinez, who recently spoke of his legacy during an interview with Modern Luxury. "His DNA is splattered throughout the culture in a way that deserves to be explored, not just for the purpose of telling his story, but for the purpose of learning and making sure that we are all operating in a way that preserves the culture so honorably," she said.
