AceShowbiz - Liam Payne's father has visited the hotel in Argentina where his son died. Geoff Payne was seen joining mourners outside the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in the capital Buenos Aires on Friday, October 18, two days after his son fell to his death at the hotel.
Geoff solemnly walked around the makeshift memorial fans have created on the sidewalk in front of the hotel. He looked at all the flowers, letters and candles placed by fans around a tree near the hotel.
As he arrived fans, created a wall with their bodies to block the paparazzi from getting too close to him. Geoff was reportedly stoic as he spent eight minutes walking around the tree that has become a makeshift altar over the past few evenings, while fans observed a moment of silence in honor of the singer.
"Geoff paused occasionally to put on his glasses to read the notes written in English and picked up the pictures to kiss them," Sky correspondent Martha Kelner in Buenos Aires said. "He also thanked fans for being there."
Liam's father arrived in Buenos Aires International Airport earlier on Friday to arrange for the return of his son's body to the U.K. He was seen leaving a different hotel in the city, accompanied by British consular officials and security staff.
Argentinian officials said Liam's father visited the city's morgue to identify his son before meeting with local prosecutor's office to organize the repatriation of his body. Local media reported he was expected to pick up some of his son's belongings during the visit.
Liam's family broke their silence on the former One Direction member's death on Thursday. "We are heartbroken. Liam will forever live in our hearts and we'll remember him for his kind, funny and brave soul," they said in a statement. "We are supporting each other the best we can as a family and ask for privacy and space at this awful time."
