AceShowbiz - Liam Payne's father, Geoff Payne, has arrived in Argentina to begin the process of repatriating his son's remains. Geoff arrived at the Buenos Aires International Airport on Friday, October 18 and was photographed leaving a downtown hotel in a blue suit, accompanied by British consular officials. He was then seen entering a black van.
Geoff is expected to visit the local prosecutor's office, which is investigating Liam's death as a matter of protocol. He will also visit the morgue to identify his son's body.
This is the first time that any of Liam's family members have been seen publicly since his sudden death on Wednesday. The family released a statement expressing their grief and heartbreak.
"Liam will forever live in our hearts," the statement read. "We are supporting each other the best we can as a family and ask for privacy and space at this awful time."
Liam's final hours at his Palermo hotel are still being investigated, but Argentine authorities believe he may have consumed excessive amounts of drugs and alcohol. His hotel room was found ransacked and littered with narcotics and broken objects.
The autopsy report revealed that Liam died from "multiple traumas" and "internal and external bleeding" from his fall. The results of toxicology reports are pending.
Investigators have found no evidence of foul play or defensive wounds on Liam's body, suggesting that he may have fallen accidentally or in a state of semi-consciousness.
Tributes have poured in for Liam from his former One Direction bandmates, other musicians, and fans around the world.
