AceShowbiz - Ariana Grande lit up the "Saturday Night Live" stage this past weekend, marking her return to the comedy arena for the show's 50th season. The pop sensation, who stars as Glinda in the upcoming "Wicked" movie, brought a mix of humor, nostalgia, and incredible talent, captivating audiences with her spot-on impressions and hilarious sketches.
"Thank you so much," Grande began in her opening monologue. "I'm so happy to be back hosting. This year has been truly amazing. I got to play Glinda in the 'Wicked' movie. It's awesome because I'm such a theater kid. And it's every theater kid's dream to be Glinda or Elphaba." She then humorously added, "Well, it's every theater kid's dream to lose their virginity. But their second dream is, of course, to be in 'Wicked.' "
Grande, who previously hosted "SNL" in 2016, reminisced about her last time, saying, "The last time I hosted was in 2016, right on the verge of electing our first female president so I guess second time's the charm."
Known for her phenomenal vocal abilities, Grande poked fun at her musical talents throughout the night. "I just want to make one thing clear; I am just hosting. I'm not going to make this about me. I'm just going to have fun, take it easy, and keep it low key," she stated, before unexpectedly grabbing a microphone. "Oh, what's this?" she sparked laughter before launching into a medley of impressions, including Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, and Gwen Stefani.
In a memorable moment, Bowen Yang who also happens to be her co-star in the upcoming "Wicked" joined her on stage dressed in the classic Glinda costume from "The Wizard of Oz." Grande playfully told him, "Bowen, didn't anybody tell you? We cut the 'Wicked' sketch," to which Yang cheekily replied, "Oh, that's okay. I didn't really want to do it anyway."
Stealing the show, Grande's impressions didn't stop there. In another sketch, she played Celine Dion, spoofing the singer in a promo for UFC fighting by humorously adapting "It's All Coming Back to Me Now."
SNL further showcased Grande's versatile talent in another delightful segment where she, Chloe Fineman, and Dana Carvey all took turns doing hilarious Jennifer Coolidge impressions. The trio, in a comical "get ready with me" sketch, mimed putting on Maybelline lip gloss and pondered quirky topics like dates and conversation faux pas.
Ariana Grande once again made her mark on "SNL", blending her flawless vocal talent with humor and charm, leaving audiences eagerly anticipating her performance in the highly anticipated "Wicked" movie.
