AceShowbiz - Tate McRae and her boyfriend The Kid Laroi, both 21, experienced a thrilling and terrifying moment in the ocean over the summer. A jet ski accident turned an ordinary holiday into an unforgettable adventure.
In a recent interview on Capital Radio with Jimmy Hill, McRae shared harrowing details of the incident. "There was a quite scary accident you had over the summer on a jet ski with your boyfriend, The Kid Laroi," Jimmy said. "You fell off and nearly got eaten by a whale or something? Have you banned him from driving any sort of vehicle now? Is he a bit of a liability?"
Tate confirmed the story with a mix of humor and sincerity, "I didn't realise what I was getting myself into!" She explained that while she trusts her boyfriend, jet skis pose their own dangers, "They flip over every two seconds." The accident happened during what should have been a relaxing holiday, making it an unexpected highlight of their trip.
The singer explained how close they were to the whale, describing it as "like ten feet away." She added, "It was the big moment of our trip. I was like 'we nearly just landed in a whale's mouth!' That's so freaky to me, the ocean is just a really freaky thing to me, you're just in there and it's black and your toes are dangling and that's so weird. I got that feeling when we fell in the water and you're just tingling at the bottom of your feet and you're like 'we could die right now!' "
The incident only solidified Tate's distrust of the ocean and jet skis. Despite the close call, both Tate and Laroi came out unscathed, and their relationship has only grown stronger in the months since. Laroi confirmed their relationship to his fans during a concert in Dublin on April 14, affirming his feelings for the Canadian star by referring to her as his "girlfriend."
Their bond was evident during a standout performance at New York's Madison Square Garden, where Tate called upon Laroi for a duet of his song "Without You." "He's performed on the biggest stages and, with the craziest people, and he walks on my stage, and he literally looked like he wanted to cry," Tate shared.
In the spirit of spontaneity, Laroi's playful side showed when he unexpectedly picked Tate up mid-performance, catching her off guard. "Like I'm sitting here like trying to do my job and I'm like, 'oh my god,' and so it was funny," she recounted.
As the two continue with their respective world tours, their story serves as a reminder of the unpredictability of life and love. What began as a terrifying experience has become a cherished, if nerve-wracking, memory in their blossoming relationship.
