Charli XCX opens up about her initial apprehension towards informing Lorde about her song 'Girl, So Confusing', which apparently delves into their complex relationship.

AceShowbiz - Charli XCX has shared her fears that Lorde might cut off contact with her after releasing "Girl, So Confusing", a track allegedly about their connection. Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, the 32-year-old singer revealed that she didn't inform Lorde about the song until the day before its release.

"I was ready for her to never speak to me again. That could have been an outcome," Charli said. The lyrics of "Girl, So Confusing" reflect Charli's conflicting feelings towards Lorde, real name Ella Yelich-O'Connor. The song includes lines like "Sometimes I think I might hate you" and "People say we're alike/ They say we've got the same hair."

Charli explained that she had previously expressed envy towards Lorde's success with "Royals", which catapulted her to stardom in 2013. She said, "I was super jealous of the success that [Royals] got, and that Ella got."

Despite her initial apprehensions, Charli contacted Lorde the day before "Brat's" American release to explain the song's intent. However, Lorde had already heard it due to time differences. Surprisingly, Lorde knew exactly which song Charli was referring to.

"She was like, 'I can guess which one it is.' And so I was like, 'F**k,' " Charli recalled. Nonetheless, Lorde reacted positively, which relieved Charli.

To their surprise, Lorde suggested creating a remix of "Girl, So Confusing." Charli exclaimed, "Oh, my God. I can't believe this is happening."

Lorde's verse on the remix expresses her perspective, touching on her struggles with body dysmorphia and her desire to work through their differences.

In September, Charli and Lorde performed the remix live in New York, solidifying their friendship and highlighting the power of music to bridge emotional divides.
