The 39-year-old NBA icon and his 20-year-old son have taken the court together for the first time in the Los Angeles Lakers' preseason game against the Phoenix Suns.

AceShowbiz - After four NBA champions and over two decades of career in NBA, LeBron James is making another history with his son. The top scorer in NBA history is celebrating a new milestone as he and his son Bronny James shared the court for the first time since Bronny was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in June.

The father-son duo took the court at the same time in the Lakers' preseason game against the Phoenix Suns on Sunday night, October 6. During the second quarter of the matchup, the 20-year-old checked into the game to join his father on the court.

It was the realization of a family dream and a historic moment to witness for basketball fans. The moment was made more special as it coincided with Bronny's 20th birthday.

"It's pretty cool for the both of us, and especially for our family," LeBron, who shares his son Bronny with wife Savannah James, said after the game. "It's definitely a moment that I will never forget."

"For a father, it means everything," the 39-year-old added. "For someone who didn't have that growing up, to be able to have that influence on your kids and have influence on your son. Be able to have moments with your son. And ultimately, to be able to work with your son. I think that's one of the greatest things that a father can ever hope for, or wish for."

Prior to the game, Lakers coach JJ Redick had told LeBron that he and his son would likely play their first minutes together as professionals. "Just wanted to get them a chance to play together in preseason ... within the flow of the game," the coach explained.

"I'm thrilled that I get to be a part of this. I really am. It's cool as a basketball fan. I think it speaks to LeBron's longevity, but also his competitive stamina that he's able to still be doing this in year 22. It speaks to the work that Bronny has put in to get to this point and really just the fatherly care and love, and certainly the motherly care from Savannah as well," he gushed. "Bronny's such a great kid and he's a pleasure to be around."

LeBron and Bronny only played together for 4 minutes and 9 seconds, but their interaction could not be missed. One moment saw they standing next to each other as they argued an illegal screen call on Bronny.

Sadly, Bronny missed a 3-pointer off a dribble hand-off with his father. "I was really hoping that wing three on the little side DHO had gone in," JJ said. "That would have been a cool moment, but they'll have a lot of moments together, I'm sure."

The Lakers ended up losing the game 118-114. LeBron contributed 19 points, 4 assists and 5 rebounds. Bronny did not score and chimed in with just 2 rebounds in his 13:25 action.

"He's tough," Lakers player Anthony Davis said of the younger James. "Obviously, he's defensive-minded. Some great blocks, game one. The physicality. He gets over on screens, good with his hands as far as deflection and steals. But he's also still learning. He's still trying to figure everything out, so we have to realize that. He's still a rookie -- and this is a different style of basketball in the league. But I like what I'm seeing from him, on both ends of the floor, especially defensively."
