AceShowbiz - LeBron James, the 39-year-old Los Angeles Lakers star, is sitting out his second straight game after being excused from the team for "personal reasons." James also missed Sunday's game against the Portland Trail Blazers with a left foot injury.
Head coach JJ Redick confirmed James' absence at Wednesday's practice, stating that the four-time MVP is "taking some time" away from the team. According to ESPN sources, James did not accompany the Lakers on their flight to Minnesota for Friday's game against the Timberwolves.
Redick acknowledged that James has been fatigued lately, as evidenced by his requests for substitutions during games. The Lakers' first-year coach also noted that James "being banged up with the foot thing" made this an opportune time for him to rest.
James' latest absence comes amidst a challenging period for both him and the Lakers. The team has struggled in recent weeks, losing seven of its last 10 games. James has also endured a shooting slump, missing 20 consecutive 3-pointers over a five-game stretch.
Despite his ongoing struggles, James remains one of the league's most dominant players, averaging 23 points, 9.1 assists, and 8.0 rebounds per game. However, Redick has hinted that James may need to take occasional steps back to manage his workload and maintain his health for the remainder of the season.
The Lakers are set to return home on Sunday to face the Memphis Grizzlies. James' status for that game remains uncertain.
