AceShowbiz - Ariana Grande has never shied away from showing love to her fans, but the relationship isn't without its challenges. During a lie detector test with her "Wicked" costar Cynthia Erivo for Vanity Fair, the 31-year-old star said, "I love them always, but I think sometimes they can hurt my feelings. Sometimes I don't like them, but I love them always," adding that the relationship is "hard," "sort of weirdly parasocial, but it feels very real to me."
The struggle to balance a personal identity and a public persona has not been easy for Grande. Discussing her journey through fame, she revealed, "The back-and-forth throughout the course of my career has been really hard to navigate mentally. I was this approachable, funny redhead on Nickelodeon and everyone liked me."
Grande, known for her roles in Nickelodeon shows like "Victorious" and "Sam & Cat", climbed the charts with hits like "Problem," "Break Free," and "Bang Bang." Her career, however, has been punctuated by both acclaim and controversy. "And then I had one too many hit records, and everyone decided that I was an evil diva," she continued. "And then other terrible things happened, and all of a sudden I was this hero and this victim."
The most notable controversy occurred when a surveillance video showed her licking and sniffing a donut she hadn't purchased and declaring her disdain for Americans. Despite this, her fans, known as Arianators, have remained steadfast in their support.
Interestingly, Grande isn't very fond of the fanbase's chosen moniker. "I've accepted it, but would I pick that? Of course not. That would be insane," she remarked with a laugh.
The Vanity Fair lie detector test provided Grande a platform to debunk several plastic surgery rumors. Confronted with a list of procedures, she confirmed she hadn't had a nose job, facelift, eye lift, chin implant, Brazilian butt lift, or breast surgery. "This is the best day of my life," she exclaimed, addressing skeptics with, "Take that, you YouTube people."
She admitted to using fillers and Botox in the past but stopped about four years ago. Grande emphasized her support for people choosing to undergo cosmetic procedures. "Work. Whatever makes women, men, non-gender-conforming people feel beautiful should be allowed. Why do we care?"
Through all the ups and downs, she continues to value her fan relationships deeply, sometimes even DM'ing admirers to chat. Despite the complexities, Grande's connection with her fans remains a vital part of her life.
