AceShowbiz - While performing in an Off Broadway play, Aubrey Plaza fell ill and sought the advice of her co-star, Broadway legend Patti LuPone. To her surprise, LuPone suggested an extraordinary cure that almost had fatal consequences.

"Oh yes, she almost killed me," Plaza admitted on "Late Night With Seth Meyers". According to Plaza, LuPone arranged for a "special nurse" named Joe to administer an intravenous treatment. However, just before LuPone's return, Joe offered to give Plaza the "Patti Special" to help her sleep. Little did Plaza know that this "special" was Benadryl, albeit administered intravenously, turning it into a horse tranquilizer for her.

Upon LuPone's arrival home, she was horrified to find Plaza nearly unresponsive. Panic-stricken, LuPone attempted to revive Plaza with a peanut butter English muffin. "She went, 'It's happening because you are on the stage now and you need to toughen up, and that is why it's happening,'" Plaza recalled.

Plaza realized that LuPone had understood the intense demands of Broadway performance and the need for resilience. This near-death experience became a defining moment for her, teaching her about the ruthlessness and camaraderie within the entertainment industry.
