AceShowbiz - "Chucky" has been axed after three bloody seasons, Variety reports. The show, which aired on both Syfy and USA Network, followed the murderous escapades of the notorious Good Guy doll as he wreaked havoc wherever he went.
Series creator Don Mancini expressed his disappointment in a statement, saying, "I'm heartbroken over the news, but am so grateful for the killer three years we did have."
According to sources, there were discussions of bringing the show back for a shortened final season or a wrap-up film, but those efforts proved unsuccessful.
Despite its popularity with fans and critics, Syfy and USA Network decided to end "Chucky's" reign of terror. Syfy is now left with only two scripted series, while USA is working on a series adaptation of John Grisham's "The Rainmaker."
However, Mancini remains optimistic, vowing that Chucky will return. "Chucky will return! He ALWAYS comes back," he said.
This cancellation marks an end of an era for Syfy, as "Chucky" was one of its last original scripted series produced by UCP. The network is now focusing on Canadian and modestly budgeted independent productions.
"Chucky" starred Brad Dourif as the voice of the killer doll, along with Zackary Arthur, Bjorgvin Arnarson, Alyvia Alyn Lind, Jennifer Tilly, Alex Vincent, Christine Elise, Devon Sawa, Lachlan Watson and Fiona Dourif.
The third and final season of "Chucky" saw the doll ensconced within the White House, where he targeted America's First Family.
