Martin had previously faced "baseless" accusations and "death threats" regarding Prince's paternity. Feeling compelled to end the rumors for Prince's well-being, Martin had a DNA test for her son with Carter's twin sister, Angel. The result showed they matched at 99.7403%.
Carter died on November 5, 2022, at the age of 34. He was found drowned in a bathtub by a housekeeper. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner ruled his death an accidental drowning caused by the combined effects of Xanax and compressed difluoroethane.
Before his death, Carter and Martin had an on-off relationship since 2019. Following Carter's passing, Martin has been raising Prince while keeping his memory alive. She has vowed to include Carter's wishes in her parenting approach.
