AceShowbiz - Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi have been cast in the lead roles of Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, respectively, in a new film adaptation of Emily Bronte's "Wuthering Heights". The film will be directed by Emerald Fennell, who previously helmed "Saltburn" and "Promising Young Woman".
Robbie's production company, LuckyChap, will produce the film alongside MRC. Fennell will also produce and write the screenplay. The adaptation is currently in pre-production and is slated to begin shooting in the U.K. in 2025.
The story of "Wuthering Heights" revolves around two families, the Earnshaws and the Lintons, living on the desolate West Yorkshire moors. Catherine Earnshaw, a capricious young woman, is torn between her love for Heathcliff, an adopted foster son, and her desire for social status. Heathcliff, driven mad by his love for Catherine, seeks revenge on those who have wronged him.
"Wuthering Heights" has been adapted to the screen several times before, including notable versions starring Laurence Olivier, Ralph Fiennes and Kaya Scodelario. Fennell's take is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the classic story, drawing inspiration from the gothic genre and the work of the Bronte sisters.
Robbie and Elordi are two of Hollywood's most in-demand stars. Robbie recently starred in the record-breaking blockbuster "Barbie", while Elordi rose to prominence on the HBO series "Euphoria". Their casting in "Wuthering Heights" has generated significant buzz among fans and industry insiders alike.
With Fennell's proven track record as a director, Robbie's star power, and Elordi's charisma, the new adaptation of "Wuthering Heights" promises to be a compelling and unforgettable cinematic experience.
