Jared Harris, son of late 'Harry Potter' star Richard Harris, bluntly rejects the idea of playing Dumbledore on HBO's upcoming television adaptation, which is set to arrive in 2026.

AceShowbiz - Jared Harris, who has earned Emmy nods for his performances on "Mad Men" and "Chernobyl", recently shared his disinterest in portraying Dumbledore on the small screen. "No, thank you," he stated unequivocally. Elaborating on his reasoning, he added, "Also, I mean, why do it? I don't understand. The films were fantastic - leave them alone."
Harris' father, Richard Harris, originated the role of Dumbledore in the first two "Harry Potter" films, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" and "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets", before passing away in 2002. Michael Gambon subsequently took over the mantle. While Jared acknowledges the potential for "a lot of storytelling" in the upcoming HBO series, he maintains his stance that the cinematic adaptations were exceptional.
In contrast to Harris's perspective, "Harry Potter" actor Gary Oldman has hinted at his willingness to return to the Wizarding World as Dumbledore "maybe in a few years."
HBO's "Harry Potter" television series is currently seeking child actors between the ages of 9 and 11 for the roles of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley. The series, scheduled to debut in 2026, aims to cover all seven of J.K. Rowling's books over the course of 10 seasons.
