"Méi June Mulaney came into the world September 14, 2024, the year of the dragon," Munn captioned a heartfelt Instagram post.
In her post, she shared poignant feelings about not being able to carry her daughter herself. "When I first met our gestational surrogate we spoke mother to mother. She showed me so much grace and understanding, I knew I had found a real-life angel."
Mulaney also took to Instagram to share his happiness, jokingly adding, "We stole so much stuff from the hospital," while expressing his immense love for his newborn daughter.
The couple's joy is especially significant given Munn's harrowing battle with breast cancer, which was diagnosed in 2023. Munn went through a series of treatments, including five surgeries and a double mastectomy. She revealed that she had to decide between continuing medication that would leave her bedridden or undergoing extensive surgery. Ultimately, she chose a full hysterectomy to be present for her family.
Ahead of her treatments, Munn and Mulaney decided to freeze eggs to keep their dream of expanding their family alive. Remarkably, the couple succeeded in creating two embryos, leading to the birth of Méi. "We just wanted a few more eggs… John and I talked about it a lot, and we don't feel like we're done growing our family," Munn recounted.
The couple, who started dating in 2021 after Mulaney's split from Anna Marie Tendler, welcomed their first child, Malcolm, in November 2021. Their journey to parenthood has been one filled with immense joy juxtaposed with challenging moments, showcasing their resilience and dedication to one another and their growing family.
Munn shared how Malcolm has been a beacon of joy throughout her treatments. "When I'm with him, it's the only time my brain doesn't think about being sick. I'm just so happy with him," she said, emphasizing that being a mom is what matters the most to her.
